College Readiness

What constitues College Readiness?

Many students are eligible for college.  They met the criteria:  average or above average GPA, adequate ACT/SAT scores, high school credit mandates, state guidelines and more.  However, what happens when students enter and enroll?  Many never graduate and many struggle with completing classes successfully.

I believe there are non-cognitive factors that every students and school counselor should consider when prior to a student entering college.  These factors consists of:  motivation, perseverance, time management, progress monitoring, seeking assistance and being present (physically and intellectually).  There has to be a non-cognitive plan for students prior to entering college to determine readiness.  Are there additional factors to consider?  How can we ensure that college entry moves toward sustainability and finally completion?
